CTOnews.com Sept. 18, according to the Nikkei News, Panasonic Holdings announced on September 12 that it would mass-produce small all-solid-state batteries currently being developed for drones and other products in the second half of the 2020s (CTOnews.com Note: 2025-2029).

Panasonic Holdings said that if it can be practical, it is expected to fill 80% of the battery capacity of drones in about three minutes. Compared with existing lithium-ion batteries that take about an hour to recharge, the convenience will be greatly improved.

Panasonic Holdings for the first time to the media and customer enterprises to open the technology demonstration, and introduced the all-solid-state battery. Although no details such as the composition of the metal materials have been released, officials say they expect to be able to charge and discharge tens of thousands of times, far more than about 3000 charges and discharges for ordinary lithium-ion batteries.

All-solid-state batteries are also expected as a new generation of on-board batteries for all-electric vehicles (EV). For example, Toyota plans to make all-solid-state batteries practical as early as 2027-2028. Mr Ogawa, chief technology officer (CTO) of Panasonic Holdings, said that all-solid-state batteries would need to work closely with carmakers if they were to be used in vehicles. "they cannot be done alone, so it is not convenient to comment".
