Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens for the delivery of clues on the way! CTOnews.com Sept. 18, Unity made its latest response to the charging policy on X: "We apologize for the confusion and anxiety caused by the charging policy announced on Tuesday. We are listening, talking to our team members, communities, customers and partners, and will make changes to the policy. We will share updates in a few days."

CTOnews.com previously reported that in the article "Unity charging Model and supporting Services Update", Unity announced that from January 1, 2024, it will introduce new Unity Runtime fees (commonly known as "operating fees") based on the number of games installed, ranging from $0.005 per download to a maximum of $0.20. At the same time, Unity will add free tools and services such as cloud-based asset storage, Unity DevOps tools and the ability to run AI models locally to its existing subscription plan in November.

Unity officials say the introduction of "operating fees" is based on the number of times a high-quality game has been downloaded by end-users. When you choose this billing method, the game will be bundled with Unity Runtime to download.

The game that triggers the "operating fee" needs to meet the following two conditions:

The game's revenue has exceeded the minimum income threshold in the past 12 months.

The game has exceeded the minimum number of life cycle installations.

Unity has officially set a fee threshold, and only games that meet the following threshold are required to pay an "operation fee":

Unity Personal and Unity Plus: revenue in the past 12 months has reached or exceeded $200000 (currently about 1.46 million yuan) and has reached 200000 game life cycle installations.

Unity Pro and Unity Enterprise: revenue in the past 12 months has reached or exceeded $1 million (currently about 7.3 million yuan) and has reached 1 million game life cycle installations.

After being denounced by various game developers, Unity officially clarified that:

Demo downloads, including game trials, will not be counted as "operating fees" unless "Demo is part of the full game download"

Pre-emptive experience games will be charged, while games provided for or included in charity will be waived.

For games in subscription services like Xbox Game Pass, Unity does not charge game developers, but services such as Microsoft.
