Although Geely is evaluating the development potential of Indonesia's new energy market and exploring opportunities to compete in the Indonesian market, it does not have any specific plans to invest and build factories in Indonesia.

Proton has long been the most important basis for Geely's development in the ASEAN market. In the future, Geely will continue to deepen cooperation with its strategic partner DRB-HICOM to help Malaysia become an important development engine of new energy vehicles in ASEAN.

As for previously on the matter, CTOnews.com reported on September 14 that Indonesia's Minister of Ocean and Investment Coordination, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, revealed at a seminar in Jakarta that he had talked to Geely, one of the major Chinese car companies interested in investing in Jakarta. " We started negotiations with Geely a few months ago, and two days ago, we offered to jointly study the production of electric cars in Indonesia. " It is said that the Indonesian government will supply Geely with nickel ore, a key raw material for batteries.

The minister pointed out that now is the best time for Indonesia to own and produce domestic electric cars, and will carry out research with Geely with a view to "achieving great-leap-forward development". Indonesia will be able to have electric cars made by its own people.

At present, there are Hyundai, Wuling and Dongfeng Xiaokang brands that produce electric cars in the country, which are produced by factories in Java.

As for the "Proton Motor" mentioned above, it is the national car brand of Malaysia, which was acquired by Geely Motor in June 2017. According to official data, Proton tripled its revenue by the end of 2022, ranking second in Malaysian market sales and market share for four years in a row, and ranking first in overseas export sales.
