CTOnews.com Sept. 17, Valve employee Pierre-Loup Griffais revealed that the company had developed a dedicated VR host, but it was cancelled because the cost was too high. According to CTOnews.com, the console may be the heir to Steam Machines, which was a failed game hardware in 2013.

Griffais said it wanted to launch the VR console with Valve Index VR Touxian in 2019, but technologies such as Proton on Linux were not mature enough to support a large number of PC games. In addition, they don't have a good desktop / general-purpose system solution that allows users to buy the host at the price of a high-end PC.

Griffais also said that its work on hardware is only a PC chassis and a motherboard, which means there are no specific specifications and configurations for the mainframe, which means the project was terminated a long time ago.

Griffais was later involved in the development of Steam Deck, a successful product that combines all the previous hardware efforts of Valve. Steam Deck is a portable handheld game console based on Linux system, which can run most Steam games.
