CTOnews.com Sept. 17, this week, AMD released version 0.8 of the Ryzen AI software platform (preview), which supports Windows 11 computers with AMD Ryzen 7040U and 7040HS series mobile processors.

AMD Ryzen AI for Windows is a special hardware provided by the company for the Ruilong 7040 series APU based on Zen 4, in which Vitis AI provides a powerful set of AI reasoning tools and seamlessly integrates popular frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch and ONNX.

In order to optimize the model of hardware deployment, AMD specially provides developers with special quantitative tools. To simplify the development experience, AMD provides Docker containers that are preconfigured for a specific framework. In addition, the platform can seamlessly integrate popular development environments such as Visual Studio and Python, making AI development easier.

Simply put, AMD's Ryzen XDNA AI engine is an on-chip "accelerator" designed for low-intensity AI reasoning workloads, such as audio, photo, and video processing, designed to provide faster response times than online services and more energy efficient than CPU or GPU-based solutions.

CTOnews.com learned officially that the engine can handle up to four concurrent AI streams as well as INT8 and bfloat16 instructions. AMD claims that the engine is faster than the neural engine of Apple's M2 processor.

It is worth mentioning that Intel, AMD's main competitor, will launch the Core Ultra processor codenamed Meteor Lake this month, and the CPU introduces the AI acceleration module. Although it is not clear whether its AI engine will bring any benefits, it will at least bring competition on a par with AMD Ryzen AI engines.
