The telescope is the largest and most capable telescope in time domain survey in the northern hemisphere. it has a field of view of 2.5 meters and is located in the Leng Lake Astronomical observation Base in Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province.

The main mirror diameter of Mozi Survey Telescope is 2.5 meters. By using the international advanced main focus optical system design and active optical correction technology of the main mirror, it can achieve uniform high image quality and very low image field distortion in the range of 3-degree field of view, and is equipped with a 765-megapixel large target surface main focal camera. it has the characteristics of large field of view, high image quality and wide band.

Mozi Survey Telescope has the advantages of large light area, less stray light, high detection sensitivity and strong ability to survey the whole northern celestial sphere every three nights, which is the most powerful equipment for optical time-domain survey in the northern hemisphere. its core scientific objectives are to search and monitor astronomical dynamic events and to carry out time-domain astronomical observation research.

Lou Zheng, chief engineer of the Qinghai Observatory of the Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said previously that the current work is to optimize the imaging quality of the telescope, and its pointing and tracking performance still needs to be further optimized. When Mozi is officially put into observation, it can detect some very weak and distant celestial signals, including extragalactic galaxies, galaxy clusters and other celestial signals.
