Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, September 17 (Xinhua) Volvo Energy has signed a letter of intent with battery recycler Connected Energy to jointly develop a battery energy storage system (BESS). The two sides plan to use batteries recycled from Volvo electric buses, trucks and machines to build BESS and create a second life for the batteries.
CTOnews.com has learned officially that the energy storage system will be built into a "container system", which Volvo expects to launch in Europe by 2025. Meanwhile, Volvo began using Connected Energy's E-STOR system at its Gothenburg plant in Sweden, which is used to analyze response to the grid.
"the goal of the Volvo Group is to ensure that every battery that powers our vehicles reaches its full potential before recycling," said Elisabeth Larsson, senior vice president of sales and services for Volvo Energy.
Connected Energy points out that electric vehicle batteries still have about 80 per cent of their initial energy storage capacity at the end of their life cycle. Recycling them into the energy storage system can give electric vehicle batteries a second life, thus significantly reducing their carbon footprint over their useful life.
