CTOnews.com, Sept. 15 (Xinhua)-- Belgium has asked Apple to follow up on the measure in the European Union after Apple said it would release software updates for French iPhone 12 phone users to address radiation problems raised by regulators in the country.

Mathieu Michel, the Belgian digital secretary of state, said today that Apple had been asked to update its iPhone 12 software in EU countries, according to Interface News. However, he also said that according to a preliminary review by Belgian regulators, the phone did not pose a danger to users and there was no need for a recall.

CTOnews.com quoted Reuters as saying on Tuesday that Apple must stop selling its iPhone 12 phone in France because its radiation levels exceed the limits permitted by law. Subsequently, Belgium, the Netherlands and other countries also said that they would require telecommunications regulators to investigate potential health risks associated with iPhone 12.

Apple said in a statement earlier today that it would release software updates for French iPhone 12 users to adapt to the agreement used by French regulators, and Apple expects the iPhone 12 to continue to be sold in the French market. The company added: "this is related to the specific testing protocols used by French regulators, not safety issues."

In response, ANFR, the French regulator, said it would test software updates provided by Apple. If it affects the electromagnetic waves emitted by the equipment and causes the model (iPhone 12) to comply with the European standards applicable to France, ANFR will cancel the order to withdraw from the market.
