Unity's move was prompted by a claim that it had received "credible death threats." A Unity spokesman said in a statement that the company was "aware of a potential threat to some of our offices" and "immediately took proactive steps to ensure the safety of our employees." Unity closed offices that could be potential targets on Thursday and Friday and actively cooperated with law enforcement, the report said.

Unity CEO John Riccitiello was scheduled to speak to employees Thursday morning, but that was canceled.

As CTOnews.com previously reported, Unity Engine announced that, starting January 1, 2024, developers will be charged based on game installs.

In the Unity Charging Model and Supporting Services Update, Unity Engine officials said that starting January 1, 2024, new Unity Runtime fees will be introduced based on the number of games installed. In November, Unity Engine will also add tools and services such as cloud-based asset storage, Unity DevOps tools and the ability to run AI models on-premises for free to existing subscription plans.

This naturally led to the anger of many game developers, such as Mega Crit, the production group of the popular card game "Killing Spires", released an official announcement today, announcing that future games will change the production engine and no longer use Unity engine.
