According to news from CTOnews.com on September 15, TSMC announced today, on the eve of the International Ozone layer Protection Day, that it will accelerate the sustainable process of RE100, setting the goal of "100% global operation using renewable energy" by 2040.

At the same time, TSMC increased the proportion of renewable energy used in the company's production and operation strongholds from 40% to 60% in 2030. TSMC said that in the future, through a "sustainable blueprint" of zero growth and gradual decline in carbon emissions from 2025, and carbon emissions returning to 2020 levels in 2030, we will review the achievement of the goal year by year and "take practical actions to achieve a sustainable future of zero carbon".

CTOnews.com previously reported that TSMC announced in July 2020 that it would join the RE100 initiative, making it the first semiconductor manufacturer in the world to join the initiative, when TSMC pledged to achieve 100 per cent use of renewable energy by 2050. In this way, TSMC has pushed forward its goal of using 100% renewable energy this time by 10 years.

RE100 is a global initiative launched by the international non-profit organization Climate Organization in cooperation with CDP to encourage companies to switch to renewable energy. TSMC is one of the companies with the greatest demand for electricity among RE100 members, and its sustainable goal by 2030 is to generate 25 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy sources in its manufacturing plants and 100 per cent from renewable energy sources in other plants.
