CTOnews.com, Sept. 15 (Reuters)-Tesla's integrated die-casting body technology (gigacasting) has made a breakthrough to change the current production model of electric vehicles and help Musk achieve his goal of halving production costs, Reuters reported.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that Tesla developed a giant press with a clamping pressure of 6000-9000 tons, which integrated die-casting the front and rear frame structure of the Model Y model, reducing production costs.

People familiar with the matter believe that this breakthrough in integrated die-casting body technology can make about 400 parts produced by traditional cars, almost all the complex electric vehicle bottoms into a whole, and build Tesla's new technology moat.

It is reported that Tesla's time to develop a new car can be reduced to 18-24 months after deploying the integrated die-casting body technology, while it usually takes 3-4 years for automakers to develop new cars.
