It started when a website called Race Track published an obituary written by "Editor" after the accidental death of Brandon Brandon Hunter, a 42-year-old former NBA player, and the article was titled "Brandon Hunter useless at 42" (Brandon Hunter was 42 years old).

The disgusting obituary was posted on Microsoft Start (personalized news streaming) and MSN news portals, causing a strong resentment among readers.

Race Track's profile on Microsoft Start (formerly Microsoft's MSN portal) included a link to a site called Autogear, which stopped parsing after the event.
