CTOnews.com, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) Microsoft and Oracle have moved from technology competitors to cooperation, and on Thursday they signed a four-year cloud partnership to accelerate cooperation in software development and AI markets.

The two companies say that by deepening their cooperation, Microsoft Azure AI services can now be run more easily on Oracle databases, while customers can also deploy and use Oracle databases in Azure data centers.

The two companies also jointly launched Oracle Database@Azure 's new service, which is scheduled to be first launched in the US, UK and Germany in early 2024. CTOnews.com checked the press releases of the two companies and did not find the scale of the deal.

The details of Oracle Database@Azure were not disclosed in the press releases of both sides. Oracle said Oracle Database@Azure offered its customers more options, including a new "fully integrated" experience of deploying, managing and using Oracle database instances in the middle of Azure to migrate databases to the cloud.

Oracle Database@Azure also supports Oracle's existing database services, including Oracle Exadata Database Services, Oracle Autonomous Database Services and Oracle Real Application Clusters, and receives "joint support" guarantees from Oracle and Microsoft to provide solutions for any mission-critical workload.

The above sources are from Microsoft press releases. Customers will be able to purchase Oracle Database@Azure through Azure Marketplace and take advantage of existing Oracle database licenses. Oracle will operate and manage its services directly in Microsoft's global data center.

"most customers use multiple clouds to seamlessly connect Oracle's database technology through Azure services, allowing customers to experience the best database and network performance," Oracle co-founder and CTO Larry Ellison said in a statement.

The partnership between Microsoft and Oracle marks a major strategic shift in the cloud market. Previously, cloud providers wanted to lock customers on a certain platform, but with the complexity of the scene, customers also need to use a variety of cloud products. This cooperation is launched to meet the needs of market development.

"We have expanded our partnership with Oracle to make Microsoft Azure the only other cloud provider that can run Oracle database services," Nadella said in a subsequent tweet.
