CTOnews.com Bigscreen Beyond, the world's lightest and smallest VR headset, has begun shipping to pre-order customers in the United States, an ultra-light and ultra-small SteamVR headset designed for long-term PC virtual reality experiences and customized to users '3D facial scans.

Bigscreen Beyond weighs just 127 grams, is 143 mm long and 52 mm thick and fits in the palm of your hand. Pancake lenses are used just like Meta Quest Pro, behind which is a pair of MicroOLED displays with a total resolution of 5,120 x 2,560, 2,560 x 2,560 in one eye, and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz.

Bigscreen Beyond sells for $1000 (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 7280 yuan) or $32 per month (currently about 233 yuan), but it doesn't come with a location-tracking base station or a handle. The headset uses the SteamVR tracking system, so users need at least one base station, preferably two or more, and their own input devices, such as the Valve Index handle.

The best thing about Beyond is that it's customised-when users order a device, the system asks them to submit a 3D face scan so the headset can be customised to the user's head shape and IPD (interpupillary distance), which ensures the best fit, but can't adjust IPD afterwards and therefore can't be shared with others unless their eyes are exactly the same as yours.

Bigscreen Beyond is also now accepting orders from 13 new countries, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. These countries are in addition to the original support countries, including the United States, Britain,"most of Europe," Canada, Australia, new Zealand and Japan.

In early June, Bigscreen announced last-minute improvements to the lens, expanding FOV field angles, improving center angle resolution, improving sharpness and sweet spots, and reducing visual artifacts such as blur.

Bigscreen said it will ship tens of thousands of headsets in the coming months, and international shipments will begin in the fourth quarter of this year. In addition, audio band accessories are still on schedule for Q4 launch, and more details will be announced later this month.
