CTOnews.com Sept. 14 news, in recent years, major computer companies are competing to develop folding computers, Lenovo, Asustek, Hewlett-Packard and so on have launched their own folding products. Today Hewlett-Packard unveiled the Spectre Fold, which claims to be the thinnest and smallest 17-inch folding computer in the world.

The computer weighs less than 3 pounds (CTOnews.com Note: about 1362 grams) and has a 3:4 OLED screen with a resolution of 1920 x 2560 and a thickness of only 8.5mm. When laid flat, it is a 17-inch tablet. Eject the bracket (built-in) to support its long side, and it becomes a 17-inch laptop. Fold the tablet into a 90-degree angle and place the magnetic Bluetooth keyboard in the lower half, and it becomes a 12.3-inch flip tablet.

Hewlett-Packard claims that the Spectre Fold is "the world's first folding computer with built-in AI" for security, health and gesture control functions. For example, it can automatically lock and wake up the computer according to the presence of the user, can also remind the user to control the use time of the screen, and can also achieve touch-free content control.

In terms of design and construction, the notebook uses a matte "slate blue" decorated magnesium alloy fuselage, with a rear integrated bracket. Hewlett-Packard's environmental efforts are also fully demonstrated here, with large amounts of marine plastics and recycled metals and plastics used in the structure of Spectre foldable computers. This is a very attractive PC with a thickness of only 8.5mm when unfolded.

In terms of performance, the Spectre Fold is equipped with an Intel Core i7-1250U processor, 16GB memory and 1TB storage, and HP's unique GlamCam beauty camera. The Spectre Fold is equipped with a large 94.3Whr battery, and Hewlett-Packard says it can last up to 12 hours. However, the computer is also very expensive, starting at $4999.99 (currently about 36400 yuan), making it one of the most expensive computers on the market. By comparison, Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Fold and Asustek's Zenbook Fold are $2499 and $3499, respectively. Moreover, both computers also had some problems in previous tests, such as short battery life, difficult keyboards, software failures and so on. So it remains to be seen whether HP can make the Spectre Fold a folding computer worth buying.
