CTOnews.com, Sept. 14 (Reuters)-Belgium's vice minister of digital economy said he would ask telecommunications regulators to analyze potential health risks associated with Apple's iPhone 12 after France ordered a moratorium on the sale of Apple's iPhone 12 on grounds of violating radiation exposure restrictions.

"I have a responsibility to ensure the safety of all citizens," Matthew Mathieu Michel, the secretary of state for digital affairs, said in an emailed statement to Reuters on Thursday.

Apple said on Wednesday that iPhone 12 has been certified by a number of international agencies and has been confirmed to comply with all applicable SAR regulations and standards around the world, and we have provided French and French representatives with results from several Apple and independent third-party laboratories to prove its compliance.

But France suspended sales of the iPhone 12 until Apple resolved radiation problems detected in two tests this week, raising the possibility of further European bans on the phone.

BNetzA, the German Internet regulator, also said it might launch a similar process and maintain close contact with the French authorities. The Dutch digital regulator also said it was investigating the matter and would ask Apple for an explanation.

"I have quickly contacted the IBPT-BIPT to ask for an analysis of the potential dangers of the product," said Mr Michelle, who also asked regulators to review all Apple smartphones and devices made by Apple, with subsequent reviews of products from other companies.

According to CTOnews.com, researchers have conducted a number of studies over the past two decades to assess the health risks posed by mobile phones, and according to the World Health Organization, the adverse health effects of mobile phone use have not yet been determined.
