CTOnews.com, September 14 (Xinhua)-- Qualcomm announced its acquisition of CPU design company Nuvia for $1.4 billion in March last year, and is expected to launch a self-developed processor called "Oryon" at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii on October 24-26, with an estimated product name Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4.

According to foreign technology media SemiAccurate, in terms of performance, the self-developed processor "Oryon" is better than Apple's M2, but not as good as the M3 chip.

Qualcomm Oryon chips are mainly for notebooks, although they basically meet expectations in terms of performance, but there are challenges in tuning Nuvia core and Qualcomm uncore (which are essential to the performance and maintenance of processors), resulting in high power consumption and a lot of room for improvement in power management.

The important reason for the high power consumption of Qualcomm Oryon chip is that it uses the server core rather than the consumer core. In terms of power management, there is a big gap compared with Apple's Monaco, so it is difficult to compete with Apple in the high-end notebook market.

CTOnews.com previously reported that there will be three versions of Qualcomm Oryon chips, of which the high-end version has 12 cores, including 8 performance cores and 4 energy efficiency cores.
