Wireless setup-learn RouterOS Series 15 from scratch

Purpose of this chapter: set wireless password, SSID, wireless transmit power and virtual SSID.

At first we had quick set Quick setup to help us set up wireless, but how does it work if we set up wireless manually?

Open Wireless, and we can see the following interface (if it is a dual-band ROS router, you will see a wlan1 and a wlan2)

1. Set wireless password

Set the wireless password in the security configuration (Security Profiles)

Click the + sign, create a new configuration file, fill in the corresponding name and password, and click OK.

Back to WIFI Interfaces

Double-click wlan1, a pop-up window, first switch to advanced configuration mode

Then modify the SSID and configuration files in wireless, and the rest can be done by default. Finally, click OK.

3. Configure wireless transmit power

The power of ROS is adjustable, and calculated in terms of dbm, each increase in 3dbm doubles, and each decrease in 3dbm decreases by half. 30dbm is the power of 1000mw, so 33dbm is 2000mw. 27dbm is 500mw.

The wireless power in the Routeros requires advanced configuration adjustments in the wireless. And only the physical wlan interface can be modified, not the virtual wlan interface.

Find TX Power.

RB951Ui-2HnD is used in this case, and the transmit power defaults to 1000mw, which is now adjusted to 50mw.

4. Create a new virtual AP

Now in some scenarios, we may need multiple wireless SSID signals to meet different work requirements, in the case of limited funds, we can build a virtual AP to meet.

RouterOS a physical wireless interface can build 127virtual AP. However, it is recommended that the maximum number of virtual AP should not exceed 4-8. Because too much will lead to poor wireless quality.

Before establishing a virtual AP, establish a wireless password configuration file, which can be referred to in section 1 of this chapter.

Then click the + sign in the wireless and select Virtual.

Configure the following three items:

When finished, we will be able to see a virtual interface for Wlan2.

The final job is to add the virtual wlan interface to the Bridge bridge.
