CTOnews.com, September 14 (Xinhua)-- based on information obtained from the supply chain, Apple initially purchased 1000 million OLED panels for the iPad, according to South Korean media The Elec.

Apple plans to launch 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro with OLED panels in the middle of next year, with initial purchase orders for 11-inch 6 million and 12.9-inch 4 million, according to the supply chain.

On the supplier, LG Display will supply 11-inch and 12.9-inch OLED panels, of which 4 million 12.9-inch OLED panels will be supplied entirely by LG Display, in addition to 2 million 11-inch OLED panels; Samsung Display will supply only 4 million 11-inch OLED panels.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Apple plans to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays in mid-to-late 2024.

The new iPad Pro model will be equipped with a hybrid OLED (Hybrid OLED) display made of flexible and rigid materials, which may help achieve a thinner and lighter design than the current model.

Compared with the existing LCD panel models, OLED technology will make the next generation iPad Pro display screen have higher brightness, higher contrast, higher color accuracy and lower power consumption. Apple already uses OLED displays in the latest iPhone and Apple Watch, with the exception of the low-end iPhone SE.

IPad Pro released in 2017 and later supports ProMotion, and the screen refresh rate varies from 24Hz to 120Hz. Switching to OLED may further reduce the refresh rate to 10Hz or lower to save battery life, and the iPhone 14 Pro model can be as low as 1Hz in constant display mode.
