Alibaba's technical anti-poverty conference was held today.

Speaking of this conference, we are about to mention the Alibaba Poverty Alleviation Fund, which was set up with an investment of 10 billion yuan a year ago. From education to health, and then to poverty alleviation for women, ecology and e-commerce, these five directions are directly led by five Ali partners.

What many people don't know is that in the past year, hundreds of Ali engineers and product managers have spent more time in the countryside than in Hangzhou. Their offices are in pig farms in Yibin, Sichuan, melon fields in Yanliang, Shaanxi, bee farms in Pingwu, Sichuan, and terraced fields in Yunnan. Their footprints can be found in hundreds of poor counties in China. Some people also won the company's "Flying Man" award for this.

Many people may have seen the tens of billions of dollars invested by the Ali Poverty Alleviation Fund, but behind this, there is an invisible engineer "poverty alleviation code". Today, I will tell you four short stories.

We're not superheroes. All we know is that now that we're here, we have to do something.

When I majored in computer science in Beijing Post, I came into contact with Internet technology and AI algorithm very early, and my dream was to be able to do something "awesome" like Musk.

After graduating in 2014, he entered Ali and participated in the research and development of PAI, a machine learning algorithm platform, which is regarded as "classy" in the eyes of relatives and friends. But no one would have thought that I would get in touch with the pig in the future, and I would work for a year.

At the beginning of last year, Aliyun worked with Sichuan Special Drive Group and Dekang Group to expand the ET agricultural brain to pig farms. I was one of 20 engineers selected.

Before leaving for the pig farm for the first time, the chief architect said impassively: students, China's pig industry will change because of us. But when I got to the pig farm, I found that this was not the case at all.

Standing in the pigsty, there was a feeling of despair. I only heard the sound of the pig crashing into the fence, the rotating sound of the fan and the sound of feeding.

I had a big fight with the chief architect in the dormitory: "your plan is bullshit, it's impossible, it's over!" After the quarrel, we went back to work. Everyone knows very well that now that we are here, we must make something.

The director of the pig farm is very active and very supportive. Because now very few people of the post-1995 generation are willing to work in a pig farm, and if they enter a pig farm, they will be locked up for a month, and the place is remote. He looked forward to the robot to help him.

In the pig farm, we thought of a lot of plans.

For example, walking robots, let robots continue to walk in the aisle, complete inspection, cleaning, feeding and other work, completely replace people. It's sexy, right? But after experimenting with several schemes, it was found that the walking robot could not stand the pig dung in front of it.

After the robot fell in front of pig dung, we decided to use drones. The UAV regularly takes off and patrols in the pig farm to complete the stocktaking and recording of each pig. But the accessible roof and messy waterline stopped the drone again.

Finally, inspired by the box horse takeout transmission cableway, we set up an automatic inspection system running on the slide track at the top of the pig farm, completely DIY climbed the pigsty and installed it.

Here, these fashionable technologies such as pig face recognition are completely useless, they are all bragging, and being able to land is a good technology. Our system can achieve almost 100% accurate judgment of each pig information, and record its daily diet, exercise, drinking water, mental state, body shape, litter birth, weaning and other data, which has also become the basis of various subsequent algorithms.

From being wild to having a down-to-earth plan, I stayed in the pigsty for three months. Now, we have done 7 sets of algorithms, and several other topics are still under study.

In terms of technology landing, in addition to large pig farms, our technology has also been opened to cooperative family farms through nails, many of which are poor families. For ordinary farmers, there used to be no more than ten pigs because of technical and financial problems. Now they cooperate with pig farms, each farmer can raise 50 to 1000 heads a year, and can get income ranging from 9 to 18 weeks without the loss of the epidemic, and farmers' early investment can generally recover the cost within three years.

On one visit, a farmer was so depressed that he was about to burst into tears because a pig had died. I read the pig death report, entirely because of a cold without timely diagnosis, and finally continued to worsen, worsening to the final hunger strike anorexia immunity decline, suddenly fell, fell to death. In fact, it is possible to discover these in advance through our technology.

In my opinion, if you want to really help traditional industries and farmers, you must bend down and jump into the pigsty, into the cowshed, and into the fields. I often joke with my colleagues that my skill of raising pigs is almost equivalent to the level of working in a pig farm for two years after graduating from a bachelor's degree.

Don't talk about cooking. I can't even tell the difference between food and melon. Unexpectedly, the establishment of an agricultural intelligence team gave me a chance to get in close contact with melons, fruits and vegetables.

At the beginning of 2018, we opened the "Xi'an model", hoping to work with six counties in Xi'an to find out a plan for the digital transformation of agriculture. From then on, all kinds of base greenhouses have become the office places for me and my partners.

Yanliang County in Xi'an is our first stop. The local landmark crop is melon, which has the strength to go out no matter in taste or in resistance to transportation.

But before letting melons go out, how to get into the farmers really tests our strength.

It is basically 40 degrees in the greenhouse, with high humidity and strong sunshine, and every time it goes to the ground like a sauna at public expense. What is even more fatal is that although it is the cooperation pulled by the government, it is too difficult for melon farmers who have grown all their lives to believe that a few of us young people who have never been in the fields can change the mode of growing melons!

We've used almost all the solutions you can think of. For example, in hot pursuit, follow the president of melon farmers to survey the greenhouse and measure the number of intervals and rows of melon racks, down to the number of flowers on each melon seedling. Let the president see that we are with Internet data thinking and technology, determined to help him solve the management pain points. We also found the farm record books written by farmers, which took more than a month to sort out. Notes like Tianshu can be understood by everyone after informationization. There are also those who recognize their relatives and return to their families, and those who worship their sons and recognize their two brothers, chasing after others to recognize melon seedlings and learn about the different growth stages and planting processes of melons.

When we are ripe with farmers, we begin to "argue" with them. Why do you say your melons are the best? how sweet are your melons? do you know what the people who bought melons say? prove it to us.

In the end, the president of melon farmers changed from "bothering us to delay our work" to "I listen to you". He has been growing melons for more than 30 years, and he knows too well how stubborn farmers are and hopes that someone will help him to help them grow melons out of poverty.

Like the president's experience of growing melons for more than 30 years, we have also made an intelligent planting production manual, which you can check through your mobile phone. And every day, including weather, insect pests and other early warning, unified planting tasks, can also be sent to farmers like text messages, according to the instructions, melon planting can become stupid.

In fact, when we said that we would apply data intelligence technology to agriculture, we were not sure because traditional agriculture was so short of data. But now, as soon as you take a shot, farmers can participate in data collection. And this information is also their assets and can become credit information for loans in ant financial products in the future.

In order to make melons more acceptable to consumers, we have designed ID cards for melons that can trace production information, and have developed a function to scan and identify sweetness.

From March to autumn, the first batch of melons went online, Tmall. Because I frequently flew to Xi'an, I flew back to a "Flying Man in the Air" award. I couldn't tell the difference between anything and became a deliverer of fruits and vegetables. My friends always asked me to recommend what to eat and what to buy.

It is hoped that our technical solutions can spread the good experience and knowledge of the industry, make planting more scientific and efficient, make money, and young people are willing to join and stay.

And I am even more afraid that farmers are eager to increase their short-term income by medication, not only the unsafe crops they grow, but also the damage to the land they cannot afford. Information and data can help improve agricultural production efficiency, and the high standards of the market can force them to grow healthy products. Sustainable development is the foundation for us to use data intelligence to do agriculture.

It's a good thing, and we have to make it worth it.

I have had deep feelings for agriculture since I was a child. So I understand what people in agriculture think. They are worried about the poor harvest and that they can't get the money for their hard work.

At the beginning of 2018, a large group of us went to the mountains of Pingwu, and the students of Ant Forest were seriously thinking about how to protect the natural area. our team is thinking that we must dig out an industrial model that does not damage the environment and ensures a stable income of the local people. Otherwise, it will be easy to protect the environment, but it will be difficult for the local people who take the mountains as their home, and the protection will not last.

Alpine honey, which has a history of a hundred years, is actually very eco-friendly. But after a long circle of understanding, I have to say that "ancestral inheritance" and "old craftsmanship" are both primitive and primitive. However, lagging behind means that we have a lot to do. This is only the first step to let good honey e-commerce out of the mountains. I am even more excited about how to use technology to optimize the entire alpine honey industry.

To know that beekeeping is not too demanding of people, after all, it is the little bees who are busy. But Pingwu people are very hard to keep bees, and the difficulty is that the mountain is too high. Pingwu mountain high altitude, many Rain Water, landslides and debris flows are easy in the mountains. On the other hand, many roads have only been built to the height of the mountain, leaving more than a thousand meters above sea level for people to climb by themselves. Once we went up the mountain and encountered a rock collapse, the car could not move, the road was full of mud, and everyone climbed up with a heart hanging. But bee farmers dozens of boxes of bees in the mountains, thinking about ah, want to climb once, the heart is also tired. In winter, for fear of bees freezing to death, we have to carry dozens or even hundreds of beehives down the mountain, which is dangerous and hard.

How can bee farmers not work so hard? We also got a box of bees to come back and learn about the whole process of collecting honey. I looked for business-related practitioners and technical classmates of internal algorithms for various discussions, and the plan came out about ten days before and after. People have a hunch that's what mountain honey should do.

Bee farmers are most concerned about the health of the colony, so we put infrared detection at the mouth of the hive to count the bees. Bee farmers can see the activity of their bees directly on their mobile phones, and then go up the mountain to check if they find something unusual. In this way, the energy of bee farmers can be greatly saved.

On the other hand, the purchasing side is concerned about whether the quality of honey is mature, which also directly affects whether the hard work of bee farmers can be rewarded. We continue to tamper with the beehive, install GPS and weight monitoring, the former locates whether the honey source is in the high altitude mountain area, and the latter calculates whether the honey is mature according to the quality change and time of the beehive.

As the climate affects the flowering period and the state of bees, our detector can record the changes of weather and precipitation, and the flowering period will be predicted by big data algorithm in the future. According to the mobile phone tips, bee farmers can manage the beehive scientifically and predict in advance, so that the yield can also tend to be stable.

We brought the equipment back to Pingwu pilot, local bee farmers said that someone can understand them, do not always run to the mountains, honey can be sold, this bee is not raised in vain.

In the past, local people had great feelings for beekeeping, but they were often unable to live on it. Through the new information technology, now they have more energy to raise more bees, and how many have channels to sell at a better price, so they have a stable mentality. The old bee farmer felt relaxed, and the young bee farmer was less troubled and no longer doubted whether he could stay in his hometown for beekeeping.

To me, the relaxed feeling of bee farmers is not only important but also far-reaching. If you relax, you will be able to do this business sincerely, not just a hobby but a profession. With a clear expectation of input and output, life can be expected, and young people are willing to stay and join the mountain beekeeping, which can make the whole industry better inherit and develop.

It is very important to protect the original ecology, but we should also keep up with the times. We are just going to be this bridge. In my opinion, using information technology to solve their production difficulties and relying on e-commerce to help them sell honey at a good price is actually a respect and affirmation to the local people-since it is a good thing, let's make it worthwhile.

Don't get me wrong, I don't sell insurance. I am a product manager of Ant Financial Services Group Insurance Department. "good Insurance" is our poverty alleviation public welfare insurance for women in poor counties.

This somewhat corny name was decided by several of our lesbians after thinking about it for several days. It can enable little girls to go to school, mothers can have children, and women's safety is "good".

As a precious mother, I was very distressed when I looked at many girls in the poor county who looked childish but carried dolls on their backs. They were clearly the younger sister who was supposed to go to school but worked in a stewed vegetable stall. So, we need to make a product that gives girls one more possibility when faced with a choice. This may change their lives, but it's too late.

Because we are all anxious, do not want to wait, so use our products as long as you prepare the relevant materials, up to 72 hours, the claim can be transferred to your card. Having the money to continue to go to school and treatment for illness is a turning point for poverty, especially for women who are accustomed to self-sacrifice in rural areas. Life can be very different if they can get support when they need help.

In Yunnan, we met the girl Pu Shuangshuang, who was going to give up her studies and work. As a matter of fact, she doesn't need tuition fees to go to a vocational high school, but her family can't afford the tuition and miscellaneous fees of 1,000 yuan a school year. It was not until her brother started junior high school that she was persuaded by the teacher to get back the admission notice, which was less than two days before the start of high school. We taught her to make good use of insurance and apply for education grant, and she returned to school on September 7th.

In the past two years of poverty alleviation insurance, I really realize that only when help is done in time can I really help them. Many people do poverty alleviation projects, but from raising money to using money, no one can tell how much time and process it will take. Very often, it is the needy families who really need help to apply. At first, they reply that they have, but in the end, they do not have the money for a long time.

But now, the poverty alleviation cadres in the county tell us that it is inconceivable that the money will arrive in the account two days after the villagers submit their applications.

For their "incredible", we have built a huge and meticulous system: Alipay provides front-end platforms and user portals, ants provide blockchain and AI technical support, funds provide operation and management, insurance companies provide promotion networks, and poverty alleviation offices at all levels match each other. For locals, as long as one person in the village can install Alipay on his mobile phone, the insurance claim can be settled smoothly. For donors, they can also use Alipay to see where their money has gone and who they have helped.

So far, good Insurance has piloted three counties to cover 160000 users, and many daughters from poor families have been able to continue their studies.

In fact, I wanted to do public welfare when I was in college. But I also know in my heart that it is not easy to do public welfare. Now, my job is to technicalize the public welfare and put it on the ground with good products. This not only realized my dream of college, but also added a large group of reliable partners who had the same dream.

I watched what we did, which really affected a lot of people, especially the girls in the mountains. We use the program to encourage them to go to school and we support them to read. I hope they don't rush to work or get married. The world is big and there are many things they can do.

Women are "good". I think I will slowly tell my daughter about the changes of these girls.
