Its technology will help users prevent network attacks against the SaaS ecosystem: discover and block malicious applications, block communications from risky third-party applications, and fix SaaS configuration errors

In September 2023, Check Point ®Software Technology Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP), the world's leading provider of network security solutions, announced the acquisition of Atmosec. Atmosec is an early-stage startup dedicated to quickly detecting and blocking malicious SaaS applications, blocking risky third-party SaaS communications, and fixing SaaS configuration errors. This strengthens Check Point's ability to enhance SaaS security products and address security vulnerabilities and blind spots in SaaS applications.

With the wide adoption of SaaS applications, the network threats faced by enterprise users are increasing day by day. Statista reports that global organizations use an average of 130 SaaS applications. However, Atmosec's research points out that there are about 700 SaaS applications that are used without the knowledge of the IT department. In addition, hundreds of third-party applications are connected to common enterprise SaaS platforms such as O365 and Slack. The expanding SaaS environment not only increases the potential attack surface, but also introduces many applications that may lead to the disclosure of sensitive information without proper IT authorization.

Nataly Kremer, Chief Product Officer and head of Research and Development of Check Point Software Technologies, said, "the shift to SaaS applications presents a set of specific challenges, particularly in terms of SaaS-to-SaaS malicious communications. Atmosec's powerful SaaS discovery, risk assessment, and comprehensive visibility capabilities can help address these challenges. By integrating Atmosec's technology into Check Point Infinity, we are able to provide one of the industry's most secure SASE solutions that enable users to effectively manage SaaS security, prevent data disclosure, unauthorized access and the spread of malware, and create a reliable adaptive zero-trust environment. "

The main features of Atmosec technology include:

1. Quickly detect and block malicious SaaS applications within 10 minutes

2. Prevent third-party SaaS applications from communicating with the enterprise's SaaS environment

3. Provide full visibility into authorized and unauthorized SaaS applications

4. Fix configuration errors in SaaS applications, such as publicly exposed repositories

5. Perform multiple authentication (MFA) for application access.

With Atmosec technology, Check Point Infinity will provide effective SaaS security protection through continuous SaaS posture management, malicious communication defense (SSPM), and comprehensive SaaS application security stacks, including threat defense, data protection, and adaptive zero-trust access control (CASB) for users and devices.

The new features will be released gradually according to the roadmap, allowing users to take advantage of these important enhancements on the Check Point Infinity platform currently in use.

The acquisition of Atmosec is expected to be completed in mid-September 2023.
