China Unicom Internet Application Innovation Base, located in Guangzhou Zhongxin knowledge City, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area's "Pearl at the top of the bay", is a mobile Internet innovation base with intelligent management, green, low-carbon, safe and reliable. The total construction scale is about 199100 square meters and is planned to be developed according to the third phase of the project.

Energy saving and green transformation meets the challenge

The IDC project of China Unicom Internet Application Innovation Base was established in 2015. the design PUE of the first phase of the project is 1.44, which is built according to national An and T3 + standards. With the surge in computing demand, the problem of high energy consumption in data centers is highlighted. To this end, the state has put forward new requirements for the energy efficiency of data centers. However, Guangzhou is located in the subtropics, with high temperature and heavy precipitation. The highest wet bulb temperature in recent 20 years has reached 29.5 ℃. It is not easy to reduce PUE.

In the face of the new requirements for the energy efficiency of the data center, Unicom Group actively responded to the national "double carbon" policy, carried out energy-saving and green transformation of the existing data center, improved the energy efficiency level of the data center, and controlled the PUE below 1.3.

As 80% of the construction of the large mechanical and electrical part of the Unicom IDC building has been completed, and large mechanical and electrical projects such as water chillers, cooling towers and transformers have been built, the transformation of the refrigeration system will face huge investment. In order to meet the rapid launch of business, there is an urgent need to find a reconstruction scheme with short construction period, high cost performance and high feasibility.

Adopt a three-pronged approach to meet the dawn

● "high temperature wind wall", high efficiency refrigeration

Cheng Bo, who is in charge of the construction of Unicom's IDC building, said, "under the background of not being able to transform the previous large mechanical and electrical equipment, the best way to reduce PUE is to raise the temperature of water entering and leaving." Our current project uses Huawei's high temperature frozen water wall air conditioner. Compared with the frozen water air conditioner that supplies air under the floor, its heat exchange area has increased by more than 50%, and the air supply volume has also increased by more than 40%. Compared with the traditional closed cold channel, our influent temperature has increased from 12 degrees to 18 degrees, and the overall energy consumption of the project has been reduced by more than 20 percent. " Huawei's high temperature frozen water wind wall supports up to 20 ℃ of water intake, which provides the possibility for subsequent continuous optimization.

Huawei's high-temperature frozen water wall products use the AeroTurbo fan, an efficient EC fan developed by Huawei, which can improve the fan efficiency by more than 6% and further reduce the energy consumption of the frozen water end. At the same time, the fan adopts the drive separate structure, and the fan drive supports hot-swappable maintenance, and the maintenance and replacement of the drive module can be completed within one minute without power outage, which not only ensures the reliability of the computer room, but also greatly improves the efficiency of operation and maintenance.

● "smart online", extreme power supply

In addition to "making great efforts" in the refrigeration system, Unicom IDC Building also uses innovative technologies to achieve carbon reduction in the data center in the power supply and distribution system. The project uses Huawei UPS5000H uninterruptible power supply, and its unique "smart online" mode ensures a conversion efficiency of 99.1%, which is more than 3% higher than the average UPS efficiency of 96% in the industry.

UPS5000H "intelligent online" mode supports full-mode 0ms switching and high efficiency in full load range, which can solve the problems of large harmonics and input surge voltage interference, achieve ultra-high efficiency uninterrupted power supply, and ensure the safe and stable operation of the business.

● "intelligent brain", intelligent tuning

In the context of "double carbon", the energy saving and emission reduction of the data center itself is also particularly important. The project introduces Huawei iCooling@AI energy efficiency optimization scheme, with the help of AI platform, real-time reasoning according to IT power consumption, ambient temperature and other information to make the cooling capacity match the cooling capacity required by IT equipment, reduce the waste of cooling capacity, and let the data center "learn" to save electricity.

Cheng Bo, head of the project construction of Unicom's IDC building, said, "according to the PUE test of Saibao Lab, the test result under 30% full design load is 1.298, which is far lower than the average PUE1.5 level of Guangzhou data center, and our project has reached the benchmark level of green data center."

It took only 76 days from the start of the project to the completion of acceptance and delivery. Compared with other schemes, it is expected to save 1324.5 million degrees and reduce carbon emissions by 7695 tons.
