Fortunately, the user's manual of the new Model 3 confirms that the new car will also support the automatic shift functions of Model S and Model X, which will bring some convenience to car owners.

According to CTOnews.com, the automatic shift function is still a beta function, which needs to be turned on manually. When turned on, this feature allows the new Model 3 to automatically select forward or backward gears according to the input of its various sensors. When the driver closes the door and fasten his seat belt, the driving mode selected by the system can be seen on the touch screen. If you press the brake pedal and shift manually with the shift selector on the touch screen, you can override the automatic shift function.

Like the Model S and Model X, the new Model 3 comes with three shift options. In addition to the shift selector and automatic shift on the touchscreen, the new Model 3 comes with a physical shift button. Unlike the Model S and Model X, however, the physical shift button for the new Model 3 is on the top console, not on the center console.

According to the owner's manual for the new Model 3, the physical shift button on the top console is usually not available unless the driver presses one of the buttons to activate it. When activated, the P, R, N and D buttons light up, and the manual shift is used when the touch screen of the new Model 3 is not available or when the vehicle is in valet parking or transport mode.

Even if the shift selector on the touchscreen is available, there is another way to switch gears of the new Model 3 manually. Tesla pointed out that the driver can activate the physical shift button on the top console by briefly pressing two rollers at the same time. However, drivers should be careful not to press two rollers for a long time, as this will cause the shift selector to activate and the touchscreen to restart.
