Embarrassed, the physics paper copied the ChatGPT button into it.

The result not only passed two months of peer review, but was even published in a magazine.

The person who discovered this phenomenon is Guillaume Cabanac, an associate professor at the University of Toulouse in France, who was selected as one of the top ten people of the year in Nature.

According to the latest report from Nature, this is not the only case, or even the tip of the iceberg.

To say that the appearance of "Regenerate response" in the paper is quite obscure, there are more outrageous and more obvious. For example, directly using "as an artificial intelligence language model, I …" "copy it in.

Um... That is to say, you can use it if you want, but it is a little too casual and careless. Writing a paper is like a student doing homework.

Just the tip of the iceberg A few days ago, Physica Scripta magazine published a paper aimed at finding new solutions to complex mathematical equations.

Unexpectedly, the phrase "Regenerate Response" appeared on the ChatGPT button on the third page of the paper.

The authors later confirmed to the journal that they used ChatGPT to help draft manuscripts, according to the publisher's peer review and integrity director. Prior to this, the paper was submitted in May, the revised version was submitted in July, and no such abnormal situation was found in the subsequent typesetting.

Publishers have now decided to withdraw the paper on the grounds that the authors did not declare their use of the tool at the time of submission, a violation of their ethical policy.

In fact, this is not the only case. Since the incomplete statistics of pubpeer, there have been more than a dozen articles containing "Regenerate Response" or "As an AI language model, I … "the article.

With "As an AI language model, I... "for example, there are eight results in the search, and the latest one was found three days ago.

This also poses a more severe test for peer reviewers, who usually do not have time to examine thoroughly; second, the number of gatekeepers can't keep up.

But there are certain ways, such as ChatGPT, that big models are good at spitting out fake literature. Retraction Watch once leaked a millipede preprint written by AI, which was withdrawn because it contained false quotes and then returned online.

In fact, this does not mean that researchers cannot use ChatGPT and other large modeling tools to assist in writing manuscripts.

Many publishers, including Elsevier and Springer Nature, have said: you can use it, just declare it.

Earlier, Som Biswas, a radiologist from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, wrote 16 papers using ChatGPT in four months and published five in four different journals.

When he submitted his paper for the first time, he confessed to the editor that everything you saw was written by AI.

Just a few days later, the paper passed peer review and was published in the journal Radiology.

So after that, it got out of hand, and the papers I wrote were not limited to radiology, including education, agriculture, law and so on. For some people, the big model represented by ChatGPT has really improved their productivity.
