CTOnews.com, September 11 (Xinhua)-- Swedish holding group Embracer Group has acquired a number of well-known game IP and studios on a large scale, but the company has closed a number of manufacturers due to a series of financial problems.

Embracer is considering options for its US game developer Gearbox Entertainment, including a sale option, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters today.

CTOnews.com Note: Gearbox is the developer of the "Land of No owner" series and the publisher of the "relic" series. Embracer has spent $1.3 billion (currently about 9.568 billion yuan) to buy Gearbox.

The company's shares are currently traded in Stockholm and are working with Goldman Sachs and Aream to discuss the sale, according to people familiar with the matter. Two of the people familiar with the matter said Embracer was considering selling Gearbox after receiving interest from a third party.

Executives at Embracer and Goldman Sachs declined to comment. Aream didn't respond to a request for comment.

In June, Embracer announced a restructuring, reducing its net debt from 16.7 billion Swedish kronor (currently about 11 billion yuan) at the end of June to less than 10 billion Swedish kronor (currently about 6.584 billion yuan) at the end of the fiscal year. The plans include closing studios, canceling projects and layoffs, which Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors called a "challenging year" for the company.
