CTOnews.com source @ Kosutami said on Sept. 11 that Apple plans to stop using silicone and fluorine rubber accessories and switch to greener next-generation materials, which are expected to include accessories such as iPhone silicone phone cases, sports wristbands, Solo Loop and AirTag Loop.

CTOnews.com also reported last month that @ Druanrui said Apple would stop producing iPhone leather cases after the launch of the iPhone 15 series. Available news suggests that Apple will switch to advanced materials called "FineWoven". As a result, silicone accessories may not be stopped directly, but will be transitioned gradually until the current inventory is exhausted.

Sources expect Apple to introduce new accessories, such as a "FineWoven" strap with a magnetic buckle, to replace its soon-to-retire products after the release of the Apple Watch Series 9.

According to reports, Apple will gradually switch to more environmentally friendly materials by stopping production of all leather and silicone accessories. Although silicone accessories have lower carbon emissions than leather, they are non-recyclable materials after all. Materials such as fluororubber are also difficult to recycle because of their high temperature resistance and strong cross-linking structure.

In other words, the upcoming "FineWoven" is expected to be Apple's heavily promoted "next-generation material", which will replace leather accessories in the short term and then gradually replace some silicone accessories. In addition, Apple may also use other environmentally friendly materials for other new accessories in the future.
