Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, September 10 (Xinhua)-- TSMC had to postpone production of Fab 21 in Arizona due to equipment installation delays and various labor-related problems, but customers such as AMD still chose to support it.

AMD CEO Su Zifeng told an investor conference hosted by Goldman Sachs this week that AMD will be the first customer when the Arizona plant goes into production in 2025.

'Geographic fragmentation is important to us when you think about geopolitics, 'she says. Therefore, the Arizona factory is very important to us. We will be one of the early users, and we will deliver manufacturing soon in order to become an important customer of the Arizona factory. I think we will continue to regard geographical distribution as an important part.

Tuyuan Pexels Su Zifeng also mentioned that more customers have consulted the company about AI chips than they announced a month ago, and it can be predicted that the demand for these chips used in data centers will be very strong in the second half of the year.

At the law presentation meeting on August 1 this year, Su Zifeng said that the customer care of AI has increased more than sevenfold in the past quarter, but now it is even higher, and it is expected that the performance of AMD will be further improved in the second half of the year.

Currently, all AMD's key products, including CPU, GPU, DPU and FPGA chips, are made by TSMC, but as geopolitical tensions grow, semiconductor companies are trying to diversify their supply chains to deal with potential risks. As a result, TSMC's Arizona plant can be said to be welcomed by all its American customers and the US government.

As previously reported by CTOnews.com, TSMC began the first phase of its Fab 21 in April 2021 and initially hoped to start chip production in early 2024, but the plant has now been delayed to start mass production sometime in 2025 due to equipment delays.

Although this situation has increased the risk for AMD, the company remains optimistic and does not say whether there is a "B plan".

"I think we are already very good at managing the supply chain, so I would say this is one of our core strengths," Su added. "in terms of advanced technology, both in terms of chips and packaging, TSMC has always been a very valuable partner."
