CTOnews.com, Sept. 9, Microsoft today released a new support document detailing why many Win11 users have recently reported that the update may fail using the WinRE system's own recovery tool.

Microsoft said the reason for the failure of the WinRE update was that it adjusted the WinRE operation of the Win11 22H2 system starting from June 27.

CTOnews.com Note: Microsoft said that WinRE will be updated through monthly cumulative updates, which applies only to PC devices updated through Windows Update and Windows Server Update Services.

However, some devices may not have a large enough recovery partition to complete this update, resulting in the failure of the WinRE update and will jump out of the "Windows Recovery Environment servicing failed" prompt.

Microsoft officially said that manually resizing the partition to 100MB is as follows:

1. Open a command prompt window as an administrator (cmd).

two。 To check the WinRE status, run the reagentc / info command. If WinRE is installed, there should be a "Windows RE path" that contains the path to the WinRE directory. For example,

\?\ GLOBALROOT\ device\ harddisk0\ partition4\ Recovery\ WindowsRE in addition, the numbers after "harddisk" and "partition" are the indexes of the disk and WinRE partition.

3. To disable WinRE, run the reagentc / disable command.

4. Shrink the OS partition and create a new recovery partition.

To shrink the OS, run diskpart.

Run list disk.

To select an OS disk, run sel disk. This should be the same disk index as WinRE.

To check the partition under the OS disk to find the OS partition, run list part.

To select an OS partition, run sel part.

Run shrink Desired=250 Minimum=250.

To select a WinRE partition, run sel part.

To delete the WinRE partition, run delete partition override.

To create a new partition, run create partition primary.

To format the primary partition, run format quick fs=ntfs label= "Windows RE tools"

5. Set the partition to the recovery partition.

To check if the disk is MBR or GPT, run detail part. If the GUID below partition 3 is "Type: ebd0a0a2-b9e5-4433-87c0-68b6b72699c7", the disk is GPT. Otherwise, it is MBR.

For MBR disks, the command is set id=27

For GPT disks, the command is set id=de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac

Gpt attributes=0x8000000000000001

6. To confirm that the WinRE partition has been created, run list vol.

7. To exit diskpart, run exit.

8. To re-enable WinRE, run reagentc / enable.

9. To confirm the location of the WinRE installation, run reagentc / info.

Note that if the creation fails or you do not want to expand the WinRE partition, run reagentc / enable to re-enable WinRE.
