Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, September 8 (Xinhua)-- Meta agreed to pay a $725 million settlement in December 2022 to settle a class action over the Cambridge Analytical scandal.

Meta officially launched the compensation process in April 2023, and Facebook users registered in the United States between May 24, 2007 and December 22, 2022 are eligible for compensation.

Employees reviewing claims have received applications from 28 million users and have initially authenticated 17 million users, according to Lesley Weaver, a lawyer for Meta, who released information in court on Thursday.

"as far as we know, this is the largest class action in the history of the United States," Weaver said. This means that at least 17 million users will be able to receive settlement compensation if they pass the final review.

About 2 million of Weaver's claims are duplicated, 8 million are marked as potential fraud, and about 1 million are pending review.

Once the total number of eligible people is finally determined, we will know how many people will share the settlement of $725 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 5.314 billion yuan).

However, the real amount of the settlement needs to be deducted from other fees, including $180 million (currently about 1.319 billion yuan) in legal fees, and the real amount that can be divided is $545 million (currently about 3.995 billion yuan).
