CTOnews.com September 8 news, Google announced today in Chrome browser, will abandon the standard safe browsing (Safe Browsing) function, in the next few weeks, all browser users will migrate to enhanced safe browsing (Enhanced Safe Browsing) function, improve user online safety.

CTOnews.com Note: Google introduced Safe Browsing in Chrome in 2007 to protect users from malicious websites and created a local blacklist of malicious URLs that would display full-screen warnings whenever users visited a website in the list.

Google said that because this URL blacklist is hosted locally and cannot be updated dynamically, it launched Enhanced Safe Browsing in 2020, which checks Google's cloud database in real time to confirm whether the site users visit is malicious.

However, this also leads to privacy issues. Google Chrome will send the URL address and download link of the user to Google server to check whether these links are malicious. The transmitted data is also temporarily linked to your Google account in order to detect attacks against your browser or account.

Google announced today that it will roll out enhanced secure browsing features to all Chrome users in the coming weeks, without going back to older versions.

Google has confirmed to Bleeping Computer that data submitted to the company's servers through enhanced secure browsing will not be used for other functions, including advertising.
