Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Coje_He and OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, September 7 (Xinhua)-- the Mozilla Foundation released a report on Wednesday pointing out that cars are the worst privacy category of all the products it has evaluated. The non-profit group found that 92% of car brands provide users with little or no control over personal data, and 84% of car brands share user data with third parties.

The Mozilla Foundation, known as the open source browser Firefox, has released reports and guidelines over the years detailing how products and services such as mental health apps and app stores handle user data and providing advice on how to better protect themselves.

The report studied 25 car brands, including Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, BMW and Tesla. It turned out that all car brands failed to meet the organization's minimum privacy standards and collected unnecessary personal data from customers. the information collected ranges from personal information (such as medical data) to the way drivers use the vehicle (such as speed, route, and even music). Nissan and Kia even allow users to collect information about their sex lives, according to the report. By contrast, 37 per cent of mental health apps (which also have a poor reputation for data privacy) are better at collecting and using personal data than cars, according to the Mozilla foundation.

According to the report, 84% of car brands share personal user data with service providers, data brokers and companies that may have problems, and 76% of car brands claim the right to sell such personal data. 56% of car brands are willing to share user information with them when required by the government or law enforcement agencies. CTOnews.com noted that Tesla was the lowest ranked brand in the study and was marked as unqualified in all privacy categories.

The Mozilla Foundation says it spent more than 600 hours studying the privacy practices of car brands, with each product taking three times as long as usual. The Mozilla Foundation launched a petition urging car companies to stop data collection programs that unfairly benefit from it, saying: "We hope that raising awareness will encourage others to hold car companies accountable for their poor privacy practices."
