Reported that Panasonic Dalian base is Panasonic's largest overseas software development base, plans to strengthen support for the Internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) home appliance development.

Zhang Xue, general manager of Panasonic Software Development (Dalian), revealed the above in an interview with Nikkei News. It is said that the number of personnel, including external staff in entrusted operations, has increased from about 700 in 2020 to about 1000 in 2022, and will continue to increase in the future, the exact number of which is under discussion.

The base is developing software embedded in various Panasonic products. From the perspective of development, the vehicle sector accounts for about 40%, home appliances and residential equipment account for about 25%, and the rest are for factories and business equipment. It accounts for about half of the Chinese market and half of the Japanese market.

Zhang Xue said that the development of the AI field of speech and image recognition will be strengthened. In the field of voice and image, the basic technology cooperates with external enterprises, and how to apply it to products has become the focus of Panasonic's implementation and development.

So far, the base has launched products such as refrigerators with AI speakers that can receive and answer questions through voice, as well as air conditioning equipment that can manage temperature and air quality in a unified manner. In the automotive field, the base is developing on-board displays and electronic rearview mirror systems with navigation functions.
