CTOnews.com, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) researchers from Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently developed an "object" material technology for flexible solar cells, which can improve the efficiency of flexible organic solar cells and achieve more than 19% improvement in power conversion efficiency.

It is reported that the researchers embedded an "object" alloy component in the ternary active layer of the solar cell, which can broaden the spectrum of absorbable light, thus improving the overall absorptivity of the cell to sunlight (that is, the introduction of a light-sensitive component in the raw material, so that the original solar cell can receive more spectrum, thereby improving power conversion efficiency).
The guest component is called LA1, a small molecular receptor that the researchers modified and modified with a phenyl alkyl side chain (which is often used to design organic materials for photovoltaic devices) to "improve the performance of the cell while maintaining satisfactory compatibility".
In the test, the researchers initially achieved a 15% increase in power conversion efficiency, and then created a greater efficiency of more than 19% by combining the guest component with the Y6 series of receptors as the principal component.
The researchers believe that they have achieved considerable success, but the drivers of these gains are still not clear in theory. Looking ahead, researchers hope to better clarify these basic mechanisms, and relevant papers have been published in the journal Advanced Materials.
