CDS Technical Architecture and Product Features

Block storage is also called CDS (Cloud Disk Service). It is a safe and reliable highly elastic storage service. As an extended block storage component of Cloud Virtual Machine, it provides block storage service with low latency, durability, high reliability, high availability and high capacity support for Cloud Virtual Machine. Data in Cloud Block Storage is stored redundantly in multiple copies within the Availability Zone to avoid the risk of a single point of failure of the data. It has a life cycle independent of Cloud Virtual Machine, supports rapid expansion, online backup and rollback, supports random data reading and writing, and has good performance in throughput, IOPS and abnormal recovery time.

As cloud computing brings more convenience, more and more individual or enterprise users are starting to use cloud computing. Cloud computing cloud storage module, easy to use, users only need a terminal and a network cable can be accessed to use, the terminal can be Pad, mobile phone or computer and then through the network to contact cloud service providers, you can use cloud services.

CDS cloud disk can be created at the same time of creating Cloud Virtual Machine BCC, or CDS cloud disk can be created for the created Cloud Virtual Machine BCC. Meanwhile, a separate CDS cloud disk can be directly created and mounted on the specified Cloud Virtual Machine BCC.

3 Functional interfaces

create

CDS cloud disk can be created at the same time of creating Cloud Virtual Machine BCC, or CDS cloud disk can be created for the created Cloud Virtual Machine BCC. Meanwhile, a separate CDS cloud disk can be directly created and mounted on the specified Cloud Virtual Machine BCC. Each Cloud Virtual Machine BCC supports mounting up to 5 CDS disks as data disks. The system disk of the Cloud Virtual Machine will be automatically created when the BCC is created. The system will give 40GB of system disk storage capacity free of charge.

delete

The current CDS cloud disk is no longer needed. You can delete it. The CDS cloud disk needs to be uninstalled before it can be deleted.

expansion

As your business grows, your disk capacity may not be sufficient for your data storage needs, so you can expand your disk capacity to your desired target capacity. After disk expansion, the data on the previous disk will remain. CDS data disk can be expanded only when it is not mounted or mounted;CDS system disk can be expanded only when it is in operation or normal; expansion cannot exceed the maximum capacity of this type of disk; users are advised to create disk snapshot before disk expansion for data backup.

Disk type conversion

You can change the disk type of the CDS cloud disk created according to your own business requirements. Upgrading disk type means changing the type of CDS cloud disk from the current type to a disk type with a higher price. Lowering disk type means changing the type of CDS cloud disk from the current type to a disk type with a lower price. Disk type change is limited to CDS cloud disks, and type change of local disks is not supported.

Mount/unmount

The CDS cloud disk created can be mounted to the Cloud Virtual Machine BCC. The mounted disk must be in the same availability zone in the same area as the instance. If the disk is not in the same availability zone, the instance cannot be found when mounting the disk. If the Cloud Virtual Machine BCC instance has not been created in the availability zone where the CDS cloud disk is located, please go to the BCC console to create and mount the BCC instance. You can also unmount the mounted disk. Only postpaid CDS disks can be released. Prepaid disks do not support release. If the postpaid disks are unmounted, the unmount operation fails, and the status bar in the disk list displays "Not Unmounted." You can remount the disk and use it. If you need to uninstall prepaid disks, make billing changes first

Snapshot/Rollback

A snapshot is a data state file of a CDS cloud disk at a point in time. You can save CDS cloud disk data at a given moment by creating a snapshot of the CDS cloud disk at that moment. Snapshots allow you to backup disk data, restore disk data, and create disk images. Baidu Intelligent Cloud Snapshots save snapshots in a multi-copy redundant storage mode, and snapshot data has extremely high reliability. When you need to roll back versions or data to a point in the past, you can use the Roll Back Disk with Snapshots feature. Before rollback operation, please unload CDS disk first for disk stability and data security. Disk rollback is irreversible operation. Once the rollback is completed, all data of the disk will be lost during the period from the snapshot creation time to the rollback operation. Please operate with caution; the data disk in "mounting" cannot be rolled back; after the rollback of the disk is completed, the disk will recover the state (including partitions, file systems, and data) at the snapshot creation time; after the rollback operation is completed, you need to mount the CDS disk back to the corresponding cloud host before using it.

4. Evaluation index of block storage:

(1) Reliability: ensure that data is safe and not lost

(2) Availability: Access at any time

(3) Performance: 2 hard metrics: latency IOPS (IOPS performed per second) and throughput (data processed per second).
