CTOnews.com Sept. 6, CTOnews.com learned from the official account of China Mobile Research Institute that recently, China Mobile, together with ZTE and Shide Science and Technology, completed the first domestic operator NR-NTN Leo satellite laboratory simulation verification to support mobile satellite broadband services. This test adopts 3GPP R17 NR-NTN international standard, successfully verifies the technical feasibility of mobile phone directly connected to Leo satellite under two basic networking modes of NR-NTN transparent forwarding and on-board regeneration, and realizes end-to-end full link connection and data transmission verification.

Due to the shortage of Leo satellite outfield resources in the domestic mobile phone direct connection frequency band, this laboratory test uses Galaxy Aerospace "Little Spider" Leo broadband test constellation real ephemeris data to simulate the real trajectory of 500KM orbit altitude satellite, build the user link of mobile phone directly connected Leo satellite, and the end-to-end test environment of satellite feed link to NTN base station. Simulate the transmission environment with high dynamics, large delay and strong attenuation in the large-scale space in the whole communication process. Using the full link configuration of S-band user link and Q / V band feed link, two basic networking modes of transparent forwarding and on-board processing are constructed based on 3GPP R17 NR-NTN. The terminal and base station successfully realize Doppler ultra-large frequency offset compensation and timing synchronization adjustment in high dynamic environment. Complete the end-to-end link connection of analog terminal, channel simulator, base station, core network and service server. The measured download rate of 5MHz bandwidth under transparent forwarding mode can reach 5.1Mbps, the maximum loopback delay 15ms, and the maximum Doppler frequency offset 1.03MHz compensated by the user and feed full link, which is basically in line with expectations. Compared with the previous IoT-NTN only supports two-way voice intercom, SMS and other narrowband services, NR-NTN can provide mobile satellite broadband services for mass mobile phones and industry terminal users.

It is understood that China Mobile completed the outfield verification of the world's first operator 5G IoT-NTN technology and China's first 5G IoT-NTN mobile terminal directly connected satellite laboratory verification in August 2022 and June 2023, respectively, which can support two-way voice intercom and text messages, comprehensively enhance the satellite landing capability of high-orbit mobile phones directly connected to the satellite, and promote the pre-commercial ability of 5G narrowband NTN.

As a mobile phone directly connected broadband satellite technology system, NR-NTN is the evolution direction of space-space integration in the future. The test program of our laboratory successfully verified the landing capability of 3GPP R17 NR-NTN technology, created a solid technical foundation for the extension of terrestrial network coverage to global three-dimensional space, and was of great significance to further promote the deep integration of satellite and terrestrial network industry chain, satellite-earth collaborative technology research, and accelerate the construction of an integrated network of heaven and earth that meets the needs of the public, industry, emergency and other universal connections and scenes.
