CTOnews.com Sept. 6, Renault recently released the 2024 Scenic E-Tech electric SUV, which will be available on the European market early next year. The Scenic E-Tech is a small electric SUV the size of the Toyota Corolla Cross, Nissan Xiaoke or Hyundai Kona and claims a range of up to 620km.

Scenic is a well-known car line of Renault, which is sold under the name "scenery" in China. Now Renault Landscape has developed to the fifth-generation model, which has been officially transformed into a pure electric model, using a special electric vehicle platform shared with Nissan.

CTOnews.com noted that Scenic E-Tech is based on Renault's hydrogen fuel cell concept car released last year, which uses Renault's new brand front design and has unique arrow-shaped daytime driving lights. The design of the car is a bit beautiful, which is not surprising, because Jill Vidal, Renault's current design director, changed jobs from Peugeot.

The car's design highlights include 20-inch alloy wheels, hidden door handles and an optional Esprit Alpine version, which has a more sporty bumper and trim, as well as a choice of two-color painting.

The new car is 4470 millimeters long, 1864 millimeters wide and 1.57 meters high, which is about 45 millimeters longer, 29 millimeters wide and 54 centimeters lower than the gasoline and hybrid version of Nissan Xiaoke. Due to the use of a special electric vehicle platform, CMF-EV, which is the same as the platform used by Megana E-Tech and Nissan Ariya, the wheelbase reaches 2.78m, which is about 11.5cm longer than Xiaoke, increasing the interior space.

On the interior side, the front row has a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and a 12-inch infotainment touch screen, running Google Android. There is also a wide panoramic skylight, which Renault calls "Solarbay", which uses "dispersed liquid crystal polymers to change the transparency of the glass" and adjusts the transparency of the glass according to weather conditions and time periods. Renault said it was "the first carmaker to offer panoramic skylights that can be fully or partially opaque in the mass market," and the skylights have four settings: full light, full dark, front and back dark, or vice versa. Renault claims that the skylight can add 30 millimeters of head space and is 6 to 8 kilograms lighter than the traditional skylight. Half of the glass is made of recycled materials, and 90% of the glass can be recycled at the end of its useful life.

Renault also stressed that there is 38.7 litres of storage space in the car, including glove box (4 litres), door storage area (13.6 liters), open center console storage area (6.6 litres), two cup holders (2 liters), the storage area under the central armrest (3.4 liters), two pockets at the back of the front seats (4.8 liters) and rear seat armrests (3.6 liters). The suitcase space behind the rear seat is 545 liters.

The "standard range" entry-level Scenic, equipped with 60kWh batteries and 125kW / 280Nm motors, has a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 9.3s and a top speed of 150km/h, claiming a range of more than 420km. The long-range version will be upgraded to a 87kWh battery and a 160kW / 300Nm front motor with a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.4s, a top speed of 170km/h and a claimed WLTP mileage of 620km. The DC fast charging power is 130kW and 150kW respectively, which can increase the mileage of about 350km in 30 minutes (the top model can increase 50kWh). The new car also boasts the fastest steering ratio in the class, a turning radius of 10.9 meters and four levels of energy recovery.

In terms of auxiliary driving, the new car provides adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and lane centering assistance. Renault also said 24 per cent of Scenic E-Tech 's materials (and 90 per cent of its quality, including batteries) could be recycled.
