Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Totem Wolf for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com Sept. 6, MOD author Silent found that "Bay Coast Midnight Club 2" sold by R Star on Steam is actually a version of Razor 1911 cracked in 2003, with a clear Razor 1911 logo in its .exe file.

He believes that this is why some of the previous R Star old games crashed, because these game files may trigger Rockstar's own anti-piracy function, even if it is a legally purchased version of the game.

However, the game "Bay Coast Midnight Club 2," which was released in 2003, was removed from the Steam platform in 2021 and is no longer available.

In fact, this is not the first time R Star has been found selling pirated games on Steam, as did Max Payne 2 and Grand Theft Hunt.

According to CTOnews.com, R Star only decided to move its games to Steam in 2008. However, in 2003, some players found that the logo of the piracy organization Myth appeared in "Max Payne 2: the fall of Marx" (2010), which showed that R Star only downloaded the pirated version from other places and released it on Steam, rather than the original game content on CD-ROMs.

At that time, R Star was criticized by a large number of players, so it had to quickly replace a "pure" version-but in fact, the pirated exe was still in the game folder, only renamed "testapp".

In addition, some players found that the .exe file originally released on Steam by Manhunt carries a signature called "Razor 1911", and the game has been replaced later.

YouTuber @ Vadim M recently released a video showing that Grand Theft caused a lot of unexpected problems after changing the files.

It is said that the PC version of "Grand Theft Hunt" actually installed DRM anti-piracy system, and players do not know that the game they bought has actually been tampered with, so the game experience will become very poor after being detected to crack the code. for example, after players open one door, the game will permanently close other doors, pick up life-value items and even cause the game to crash. If the player has to continue to play, the game will refuse to accept any keystroke input by default after 15 minutes, which means you can only watch and not play (such tests have been skipped in the cracked version, and such tests have been added to R-Star games).

R Star has yet to respond to this, nor has it updated all the affected games. Therefore, the only explanation at present is that R Star has lost the source code of these old games, resulting in them having to rely on cracking the game, so R Star is in a rather awkward position.
