CTOnews.com, Sept. 6 (Xinhua)-- Apple and Arm have signed a new chip technology agreement "valid beyond 2040," according to an initial public offering filing filed by SoftBank's chip designer Arm on Tuesday.

Arm on Tuesday announced the pricing of an initial public offering of $52 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 378.04 billion yuan), which will be the largest such deal in the United States this year.

Softbank Corp. Group plans to issue 95.5 million American depositary shares at a price of $47 to $51 each, Arm said in a filing.

Arm will license its IP to Apple and many other companies, and Apple currently uses Arm technology to customize its iPhone, iPad and Mac chips.

In fact, Apple was one of the first companies to establish a partnership with Arm in 1990, which led to the launch of a "Newton" handheld computer based on Arm chip technology in 1993, but unfortunately failed.

However, the east is not bright and the west is bright. Although Arm technology has not been favored by computer chips, it has gradually dominated the field of mobile semiconductors due to a series of factors such as low power consumption.

It is worth mentioning that Apple is also the first of many large technology companies to invest in the initial public offering of Arm. However, the deal was not mentioned in Arm's IPO filings released on August 21, meaning it was signed between then and September 5.
