CTOnews.com, September 5 (Xinhua)-- Apple plans to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays in mid-late 2024, DigiTimes said today, citing supply chain sources. According to the report, some Apple suppliers have begun to expand touchscreen panel production capacity to prepare for new products.

The new iPad Pro model will have a hybrid OLED (Hybrid OLED) display made of flexible and rigid materials, which could help achieve a thinner and lighter design than the current model, the report said.

Compared with the existing LCD panel models, OLED technology will make the next generation iPad Pro display screen have higher brightness, higher contrast, higher color accuracy and lower power consumption. Apple already uses OLED displays in the latest iPhone and Apple Watch, with the exception of the low-end iPhone SE.

IPad Pro released in 2017 and later supports ProMotion, and the screen refresh rate varies from 24Hz to 120Hz. Switching to OLED may further reduce the refresh rate to 10Hz or lower to save battery life, and the iPhone 14 Pro model can be as low as 1Hz in constant display mode.

CTOnews.com notes that the largest iPad Pro currently has a 12.9-inch display, so the 13-inch screen will be even larger. It is reported that Apple plans to reduce the frame size of future iPad Pro models, but it is not clear whether this will apply to the next generation of models.

Apple suppliers may stop selling current iPad Pro models with mini-LED backlights by mid-2024, suggesting they may stop production, the report said.

At present, it is widely rumored that Apple will launch a new iPad Pro with OLED display in 2024. South Korean website The Elec has previously reported that mass production of the next-generation iPad Pro models will begin in the first half of 2024, and the most likely release month for these devices is March or June. It is rumored that other new features of the next-generation iPad Pro model include the M3 chip and a redesigned keyboard with a larger trackpad and an aluminum case.
