Preface

Doing a good job of daily inspection is an important step in database management and maintenance, and it is necessary to register the date and result of each inspection, and a patrol report may be needed at the same time.

This series aims to solve some common problems:

After the hardware inspection, the database status inspection is undoubtedly the second step of the daily operation and maintenance inspection. The inspection of database mainly includes objects such as file size, configuration information, space allocation and so on.

Database size

1. You can view the database file size graphically on the "Overview" page of SQL expert Cloud. As OPS personnel, we first need to know how big the database is. How big is the data file? How big is the log file?

Note: compared with the previous collection, you can see the increment of the database during the two collection periods.

Note: if the log file is too large, whether it is in full backup mode, and the log backup is missing or the backup frequency is unreasonable.

Note: in addition, you can know the number of tables, views, functions and stored procedures in the system, and compared with the previous collection, you can know how many new objects developers or maintainers have done during this period.

Database configuration

1. Check the configuration information of each database in [check items]-[all]. When the database configuration fails the regular check, the platform will issue a warning.

Note: improper database configuration may cause performance or security problems. Each inspection needs to pay attention to whether some of the affected configurations are mistakenly turned on, or whether they are not optimized at the initial stage. two。 View the configuration information of the database on the * * Database * *-> * * configuration * * page. The important information includes database size, recovery model, compatibility level, sorting rules, time of the last checkdb, etc.

File information

View the file allocation, file size, growth configuration, path and other information of the database in the "Database"-"File" page.

Space allocation

You can view information such as the number of rows and allocated space of table objects in the database on the "Database"-"Space" page.

Note: the system administrator or operation and maintenance personnel should pay more attention to the large tables in the system, and give suggestions and plans through the changes in the number of rows and occupied space of the large tables, such as whether it is necessary to do partition tables, whether to archive historical data, and so on.

By inspecting the file allocation and file size of the database, we can generally see the magnitude of the data and the daily growth. Only by understanding these can managers have a more basis in scheme decision-making.

Database configuration has a great impact on performance, security and other aspects. when the database configuration is unintentionally modified and unnoticed, when problems occur, it may be difficult to troubleshoot.
