The main mirror has an aperture of 2.5 meters and is equipped with a 765 megapixel main focus camera with a large target surface. the core scientific goal is to search and monitor astronomical dynamic events and to carry out time-domain astronomical observation and research.

Lou Zheng, chief engineer of the Qinghai Observatory of the Zijinshan Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said in an interview that the current work is to optimize the imaging quality of the telescope, and its pointing and tracking performance still needs to be further optimized. When Mozi is officially put into observation, it can detect some very weak and distant celestial signals, including extragalactic galaxies, galaxy clusters and other celestial signals.
