CTOnews.com, Sept. 4 (Xinhua)-- Audi will continue to use Volkswagen's MEB platform to build entry-level electric cars, including the Audi A3 electric replacement model launched in 2027.

CTOnews.com noted that the only Audi model based on the MEB platform is the Audi Q4 E-tron crossover, the new Audi Q6 E-tron is based on the new PPE architecture, and the Volkswagen Group's new SSP platform will go into production in 2028.

At the Munich auto show, Oliver Hoffman, head of Audi's technology development department, told Autocar that Audi would continue to use the MEB platform in the next few years, "especially for'A-class' models." For Audi, the "A class" refers to models the size of an A3 hatchback and a Q2 crossover.

The electric A3 will use a significantly upgraded version of MEB, or MEB-EVO, which is expected to serve as a transitional architecture for the SSP architecture. The platform will support charging speeds between 175kW and 200kW, but retains the existing 400V hardware to reflect its entry-level positioning, although Audi has not released further details.

According to Audi's new naming strategy, electric cars use even numbers, while diesel locomotives use odd numbers, so Audi may use the name A2 E-tron to name the electric A3.

Audi will launch the last internal combustion engine / plug-in hybrid vehicle in 2026, and only pure electric vehicles will be launched worldwide from 2026.
