Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, September 4 news, South Korea's market share in the global non-storage semiconductor sector was only 3.3% last year, only 1/3 of Japan's and 1/2 of Chinese mainland's, according to a report entitled "Global non-storage semiconductor market pattern and policy impact" released by the Korea Industrial Economic and Trade Research Institute on September 3.

According to the Tu Yuan Pixabay report, the total size of the global non-storage semiconductor market last year was 593 trillion won (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 3.27 trillion yuan). Regionally, the US dominates, accounting for 54.5 per cent, followed by Europe (11.8 per cent), Taiwan (10.3 per cent), Japan (9.2 per cent) and Chinese mainland (6.5 per cent).

It is said that South Korea's market share is only 20 trillion won, accounting for 3.3%, ranking at the bottom of the world's major semiconductor value chain participants.

Last year, South Korea's total sales of non-storage semiconductors reached $151 billion (currently about 1.1 trillion yuan), of which Samsung Electronics accounted for the largest share, with $112 billion (73.9%), followed by LX Semicon ($17 billion, 11.2%) and SK Hynix ($890 million, 5.9%).

In the field of system semiconductors, each region obviously has its own competitive advantage and strategic positioning, in which the United States monopolizes most of the market, including integrated circuits (IC), CPU, AP, wireless, GPU and FPGA.

Europe, by contrast, specializes in MCU for automotive and industrial robots, as well as optical and non-optical sensors; Japan has a competitive advantage in discrete semiconductors and MCU for automotive and precision machinery; Taiwan excels in components for smartphones, tablets and personal computers; and Chinese mainland has an extensive manufacturing portfolio and a wide variety of components.
