According to reports, the car is based on the new Mercedes-Benz modular architecture (MMA) platform, further transforming the cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements of the VISION EQXX concept car, equipped with "advanced and efficient electric drive system", positioning "luxury new generation electric vehicle".
MMA platform is a new modular architecture developed by Mercedes-Benz based on the concept of "electric first". The CLA concept car has a pure electric range of more than 750km (WLTP) and has an energy consumption performance of about 12 kWh / 100km. The electric drive system derived from the VISION EQXX concept car is independently developed by Mercedes-Benz with an 800V electrical architecture.
The CLA concept car uses rear wheel drive that is biased towards motion, and the MMA platform also supports four-wheel drive. Mass production models on the MMA platform will be the first to be put into production at factories in Rastat (Germany), Cage Kemet (Hungary) and Beijing Mercedes-Benz.
Based on the flexible modular architecture of the MMA platform, the car's battery system offers two options. The high-end model uses the silicon oxide anode battery, the entry model uses the lithium iron phosphate battery, and for the first time uses the adhesive instead of the bolt to fix the core module. 800 volt high voltage battery can achieve 250 kilowatts DC fast charge, known as "charging for 15 minutes can increase the range of 400 km."
The car is equipped with a new electric drive unit, MB.EDU, independently developed by Mercedes-Benz, and highly integrates motor, gearbox and power electronics modules. Among them, the 175 kilowatt permanent magnet synchronous motor and the two-speed gearbox are uniformly controlled by the power electronic module in a single processor and matched with the silicon carbide inverter. The MB.EDU electric drive unit weighs less than 110kg and boasts 93% energy conversion efficiency from battery to wheel.
The heavy rare earth content of the permanent magnet synchronous motor in the MB.EDU electric drive unit is close to 0 per cent, which is much lower than before; the production of the cell and cathode are carbon neutral, thus reducing the carbon footprint of the battery by 40 per cent.
In addition, the CLA-class concept car demonstrates two-way charging technology, which can not only provide convenience for homes or for emergency purposes through reverse power supply, but also connect charging stations that support two-way DC, balance the peak and trough of the grid, or trade green power.
In terms of exterior and interior, the CLA concept car uses the classic shark nose front face center, A-shaped grid incarnation digital canvas, equipped with luminous trigeminal star emblem and dynamic star emblem pattern. Rear lights add stereoscopic lighting, and star headlights are added. Star taillights are also surrounded by light belts, as well as luminous star emblem tail marks + new chrome-plated mirror materials.
CTOnews.com noted that the overall CLA concept car is a long wheelbase, short front suspension, long front design, front and rear light belt extends above the wheel arch, with 21-inch star emblem wheels, which lowers the visual center of gravity, as well as the prominent wheel arch and wide wheel base design, and the rear of the GT line lengthens the outline of the body.
The car is equipped with a "super-analog" cockpit and a suspended MBUX super screen that runs through the cockpit, using the mini-LED technology and immersive 3D graphics display of the VISION EQXX concept car.
The turbine outlet adopts the classical design and is presented at the left and right ends of the MBUX super screen in the way of digital graphics, changing from the traditional air conditioning outlet to the temperature control interface. The virtual inner ring located in the display screen can display the temperature, and the real air conditioning outlet is located at the back of the screen, which is integrated with the ambient light.
The front row of the car is equipped with a bucket seat with a height adjustable headrest, the seat adopts Nappa leather decoration + crystal white relief pattern, the central panel of the door adopts laurel wreath pattern, and the suspended door control panel is integrated with the door handle to form a handrail.
In addition, Mercedes-Benz introduced visual impact accessories for the first time in the car, integrating a wireless charging board with a transparent design and a luminous cup holder with three-dimensional sheet trim in the suspended central handrail. One of the highlights of the interior is the transparent display area below the center console, with a neuro-shaped aluminum ribbon leading to the water-cooled processor and equipped with the new Mercedes-Benz operating system MB.OS.
In terms of car-machine system, Mercedes-Benz independently developed operating system MB.OS to achieve software and hardware decoupling, using Nvidia water-cooled chip, CLA-class concept car MBUX super screen uses real-time graphics rendering technology driven by the game engine, three screens have a series of themes, but also with ambient lights and sound effects.
In terms of intelligent driving assistance, the CLA concept car can achieve L2 intelligent driving assistance in the whole scene, and lidar auxiliary sensor technology will be introduced in the future. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz said that MB.OS 's software and computing power are ready to upgrade L3 autopilot.
MB.OS is also equipped with a new child safety monitoring system (CPD), which claims to effectively avoid the risk of children being left in the car in hot weather. Based on a network of more than 20 system interfaces, sensitive sensors can even detect the faint breathing of newborns while sleeping, and the presence of adults through cameras to avoid false positives.
When it is detected that a child is left in a parked car, a series of warning programs are triggered, including warning the driver when the engine stalls, upgrading the warning when the driver locks the car, and sending messages to the smartphone. At the same time, the vehicle will monitor and adjust the temperature inside the car, use lights and sound to send out distress signals, and in the final stage will notify the Mercedes-Benz SOS call center or call the police.
Mercedes-Benz Chairman Kang Linsong revealed that in the future, four models will be born in the CLA family, including a four-door coupe, a hunting sports car and two SUV models.
