CTOnews.com, September 4 (Xinhua)-- South Korean battery maker SK On said it worked with Hee Jung Park, a professor at South Korea's Tanguo University, to coat Li-La-Zr-O with a controllable additive to increase its ionic conductivity by 70%.

According to reports, compared with 4.3V of lithium-ion battery, the capacity of this kind of battery can also be increased to 5.5V. CTOnews.com Note: this study has been published in the IF19.9 issue of Advanced Functional Materials, a sub-journal of Advanced.

SK On said that although increasing the lithium ion conduction velocity will reduce stability, the company has adopted the technology of uniformly controlling the microstructure of LLZO.

It is said that long-term exposure to water and carbon dioxide can lead to performance degradation of traditional solid electrolytes, but this electrolyte shows high stability, and SK On is currently developing polymer oxide and sulfide solid-state batteries.

The company said that although the ion conductivity of oxide solid electrolytes is lower than that of sulfide electrolytes, it has less response to cathode materials and can control the formation of lithium dendrites, and graphite anodes can be replaced by metal lithium.

The company plans to produce prototype products by 2026 and begin mass production in 2028. It is worth mentioning that its laboratory in Daejeon is building a battery test line, which is expected to be put into use next year.
