Will different aperture values affect the quality of the picture? Different shooting themes are suitable for different apertures? Doesn't the larger the aperture, the better?

In daily shooting, we are all familiar with the element of aperture, but have you ever noticed the above problems related to aperture?

Today, I'd like to share with you a few details about the aperture:

1. The size of the aperture value and the size of the acting aperture can be simply understood as the amount of light passing through. The larger the aperture, the larger the "hole" of the lens blade, the more the amount of light, and when other conditions remain the same, the photo will be brighter; and the smaller the aperture, the smaller the "hole" of the lens blade, the less the amount of light, the photo will appear dark.

We generally use the F value to represent the size of the aperture value. The smaller the number after F is, the larger the aperture is, such as F2.8 > F5.6. In terms of specific numerical value, F1.0 is one step larger than F1.4 (light flux), F1.4 is one step larger than F2.0, and F2.0 is one step larger than F2.8. Of course, these are all approximate values, and we can also see that there is a 1.4 (√ 2) multiple relationship. When the aperture value is multiplied by 1.4, the light input of the aperture will be less than half of the original aperture (approximate), and this relationship will become more and more obvious as the aperture value becomes larger, such as the difference between F1.0 and F1.4, while the gap between F16 and F20 is not so large.

The role of the aperture also affects the depth of field, the larger the aperture, the smaller the depth of field, and vice versa. Depth of field is the clear range of the picture, but it is not a straight range, but an arc-shaped range. For example, now think of the camera as the inner core of the earth, the mantle is its depth of field, while the outer core and crust are blurred areas, so when shooting, we should not take it for granted that the boundary of the depth of field is a parallel straight line.

When the aperture value is small, the light source will also show a radial starlight effect, which is also the effect of the aperture.

two。 Is the bigger the time circle, the better? A larger aperture represents more light input and a more obvious virtual effect, but this does not mean that the photo is better.

Most lenses have their own optimal aperture, shot at the best aperture, the picture will be very sharp, the best quality, but this optimal aperture is usually not the maximum aperture, generally concentrated between the F5.6-F11, that is, the maximum aperture of a lens usually does not show the best picture quality, or even shows some problems.

The same is true of small aperture, many landscape photography pursue the extreme depth of field, but few photographers will choose to use a very small aperture, because a very small aperture will also affect the quality of the picture, they prefer to use the best aperture to ensure the quality of the picture. Synthesis and other operations will be carried out later.

If the scene is well lit and there is no special requirement for depth of field, then we can choose to shoot with the best aperture of the lens to ensure the best picture quality.

3. Different theme aperture reference (1) large aperture F1.2-F2.8 is suitable for astronomical photography that requires high-pass light, such as starry sky and star orbit, as well as dark night scenes, and can also be used to shoot portraits with obvious virtual effect.

(2) F3.5-F6.3 can guarantee a certain amount of light input, and the depth of field is not very shallow, so it is suitable for most subjects of ordinary scenes, such as humanities documentary, daily life records and so on.

(3) the amount of light in F7.1-F16 is less, but it has a larger depth of field, which is suitable for scenery, indoor portrait, group photo, product shooting, etc.

(4) the picture quality of the photos above F16 has declined obviously, so you can choose not to use it as much as possible.
