CTOnews.com September 3, the screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) announced that it will launch a strike vote on video game publishers.

Tuyuan Pixabay, which represents Hollywood actors who have been on strike since July, said on Friday that it had authorized its members to vote after deadlock over pay and artificial intelligence protection with gaming companies including Activision Blizzard and Take-Two.

SAG-AFTRA is asking for an 11% increase in wages for game performers, which is the same as the pay increase for staff under film and television contracts. It also wants to be protected against artificial intelligence, which the union believes poses a threat to performers' art and livelihoods.

CTOnews.com noted that companies involved in the negotiations included Activision, Disney, EA, Epic Games, Insomniac Games, Take 2 Productions and WB Games. SAG-AFTRA has a separate contract with the video game publisher, which was recently extended to November 2024 so that negotiations can continue.

"We once again face greed and disrespect from employers. Artificial intelligence once again puts our members in danger of reducing job opportunities." Said Fran Drescher, chairman of SAG-AFTRA.

The strike vote will be held from September 5 to 25. Audrey Cooling, a spokeswoman for the video game company involved in the negotiations, said in a statement that both sides were looking for a "fair contract" that reflected the performers' work. "We are negotiating in good faith and hope to reach a mutually beneficial agreement as soon as possible," she said.
