Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
According to reports on the evening of September 1, Beijing time, Elon Musk's social platform X (Twitter) has changed its privacy policy to allow X to use information posted by users to train its artificial intelligence (AI) model.
The new privacy policy will take effect on September 29. The new policy stipulates that X may use collected platform information and publicly available information to help train X's machine learning or artificial intelligence models.
In response, Musk responded on X that X will only use public information to train him to practice artificial intelligence models and will not use any private content.
In July, Musk said in a live audio broadcast that his artificial intelligence start-up xAI would use public data on the X platform to train its artificial intelligence models.
It is not clear how Musk will use user information from the X platform and which artificial intelligence models it will use.
X has not commented on this.
Musk has previously opposed the use of X data by other platforms to train artificial intelligence models. In April, Musk even threatened to sue Microsoft, alleging that Microsoft illegally used X's data to train its artificial intelligence model.
In July, Musk announced the establishment of artificial intelligence company xAI, which aims to use artificial intelligence to help understand the true nature of the universe. Before that, Musk had warned that artificial intelligence could destroy human civilization. And he signed a joint letter calling for a suspension of training of artificial intelligence systems that are more powerful than OpenAI's GPT-4.
XAI is not Musk's first foray into artificial intelligence. He was an early supporter of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, but left the company's board in 2018. Musk has said he was so crucial to the establishment of OpenAI that he even came up with the name of the company.
Musk was particularly angry when ChatGPT made its debut in November last year and quickly became popular, according to people familiar with the matter. Since then, he has been critical of artificial intelligence chatbots.
The technology that provides power for generative artificial intelligence products such as ChatGPT requires a lot of data to train. In the past, the data was obtained from public sites such as Reddit and Wikipedia.
Now, these companies, such as Reddit and Wikipedia, want to profit from this or stop providing data. Reddit, for example, said in April that it planned to charge artificial intelligence companies that access its data. In addition, other sites, such as the New York Times and Amazon, are blocking OpenAI's web crawlers.
It is well known that social media sites have endless user-generated content, and they are a gold mine for artificial intelligence companies eager for new sources of training data.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is also developing its own generative AI model, recently introducing an option for Facebook users not to share their data to train their AI model.
But there are media reports that Meta's promise is limited and there is no guarantee that all users' information will be deleted from its artificial intelligence training database.
