On September 1, Tencent and China Soong Qingling Foundation jointly released the "first lesson of AI programming" public welfare project, providing an AI and programming enlightenment platform for zero-foundation teenagers across the country. Wechat searches "the first lesson of Tencent AI programming" and can experience it free of charge through the official Mini Program.

The project is guided by Beijing normal University and invites experts from the world's top universities to participate in the joint research. The first batch of content of "AI programming lesson 1" combines the two major national scientific and technological issues of China's aerospace and future transportation, and creates original interesting exploration stories. Through script-style and "play middle school", teenagers will learn about AI and programming in one hour of learning practice.

In response to the opinions of the Ministry of Education and other 18 departments on strengthening science education in primary and secondary schools in the new era, the addition of science education has been done well in the "double reduction". The first lesson of AI programming has been jointly recommended by the Department of Supervision of out-of-School Education and training of the Ministry of Education, the Central propaganda Department of the Communist Youth League, the Family and Child work Department of the all-China Women's Federation, and the China Science and Technology Museum of the China Science and Technology Association.

Since the internal test of the first lesson of AI programming on August 20, the average user has opened it 2.5 times and the average experience time is more than 40 minutes. The project has significantly improved teenagers' computational thinking ability and artificial intelligence literacy. Previously, Beijing normal University compared the performance of small-scale students before and after experiencing "the first lesson of AI programming" by means of questionnaires and interviews. the evaluation results show that after practicing the "first lesson of AI programming", the overall average value of their computational thinking has increased by 83.9%.

Zero basic "play learning", low-cost implementation of AI and programming enlightenment

AI and programming enlightenment is an important direction to improve the scientific literacy of teenagers. A survey conducted by the Chinese Society of artificial Intelligence found that nearly 70% of parents believe that AI and programming are very important to their children, but 52% of their children have not received relevant enlightenment; more than 50% of parents agree that such enlightenment should be completed at home, but less than 1% of families have the conditions to achieve it. Professional content, high teaching cost and inconvenient access to resources are the main reasons for the lack of widespread popularity of AI and programming enlightenment.

In view of the above findings, Tencent created the "first lesson of AI programming" based on years of product experience and game technology capabilities to meet the enlightening needs of teenagers'AI and programming in family scenarios with light weight and low cost.

Relying on the self-developed virtual simulation laboratory, Tencent Quding creates a highly realistic learning scene and rich interactive learning functions for "the first lesson of AI programming". In chapters such as "Pure Land" and "Dream City", the course combines game technologies such as dynamic scene rendering to enable children to use AI and programming to solve practical problems in a more realistic environment; with the support of game technologies such as high-precision real-time rendering and high simulation of physical laws, it can highly simulate the process of robot programming, construction and operation.

The Tianqin Lab of Tencent Music Entertainment Group Group provides "Qin Music" one-stop composition and arrangement technology and "MUSE AI painting" AI music visual generation technology for "the first lesson of AI programming", so that young people can experience the interesting interactive creation of AI. In addition, the theme song "Magic characters" of "the first lesson of AI programming" is the first "AI original" song jointly created by Tencent, QQ Music and Tianqin Lab, which realizes the creation of lyrics and songs mixed with full-link AI creation. QQ Music created AI lyrics to help generate lyrics and digital virtual human violin singing.

Yu Shengquan, a professor at Beijing normal University and executive director of the Future Education Advanced Innovation Center, said: "the outstanding feature of the first lesson of AI programming is to enable young people to 'play and learn' and explore and solve problems on their own driven by interest. This kind of participatory learning and immersive practice plays a significant role in improving young people's thinking ability."

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, the first lesson of AI programming is popularized to primary schools across the country.

Under the guidance of the out-of-school training Supervision Department of the Ministry of Education, Tencent launched the "Primary and Middle School artificial Intelligence and programming Science Popularization Project". Starting from September this year, Tencent will promote "the first lesson of AI programming" to primary schools across the country.

Tencent specially launched the campus version of the course, providing teaching plans, courseware, first-line teacher guidance video and other teaching packages. The first batch of campus version of the curriculum will be located in 21 pilot schools across the country, including Beijing normal University Experimental Primary School, Beijing Zhongguancun No. 3 Primary School, Guangzhou East Sports Road Primary School, Shanxi Experimental Primary School, Shanghai Private Pinghe School, and the Primary Department of Shenzhen Experimental School. In the future, based on Tencent SSV digital support education, Tencent Future classroom, rural primary schools in Jiangxi and Chongqing will be introduced.

For rural schools that lack professional teachers and computer equipment, Tencent, together with Shenzhen Mingde Experimental School (Group) and Shenzhen Mingwan Education Foundation, has transformed the AI initiation course in the campus version into a computer-free teaching model, setting up a number of classroom tasks to guide students to understand the basic knowledge of artificial intelligence through role-playing.

In order to ensure the teaching quality, the first lesson of AI programming will invite teachers from Beijing normal University and Tencent engineers to conduct online training for teachers in primary schools, share artificial intelligence education cases and teaching experience, and popularize cutting-edge technology. In December this year, the public welfare project will select 100 teachers across the country to participate in the "AI programming teacher Exchange Camp" to continuously improve teachers' digital literacy.

Based on the first lesson of AI programming, the China Soong Qingling Youth Science, Technology and Culture Exchange Center will popularize artificial intelligence knowledge to young people in an immersive experience by setting up interest classrooms and developing light interactive exhibition items, and promote it to at least 10 science and technology museums and youth activity centers across the country.

Tencent continues to pay attention to youth science education, helping young people to grow up from the dimensions of knowledge popularization, scientific exchange and applied practice. In June 2022, Tencent, in conjunction with the China Soong Qingling Foundation, launched the National Youth programming and artificial Intelligence Program, which aims to promote the popularization of programming and stimulate young people's awareness of independent innovation using digital capabilities. The "plan" has been listed as one of the key tasks of the China Network Union Juvenile Network Protection Special Committee, and has successively launched activities and contents such as "Adolescent programming Enlightenment activities", "programming and artificial Intelligence activities", "AI programming first lesson" and so on.
