Construction of the Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed railway began in September 2017, with all the tunnels on the main line in July 2021 and August 2022, starting from Fuzhou in the north, passing through Putian and Quanzhou in the south, Xiamen and Zhangzhou in the south, connecting the Hefu and Wenfu railways in the north and the Xiamen-Shenzhen and Longxia railways in the south, with a total length of 277.42 kilometers.

After opening, the train running time from Fuzhou South Station to Xiamen North Station will be shortened from the current 1 hour and 19 minutes to about 45-50 minutes at the fastest, forming the so-called "one-hour life circle."
